Sindh’s land being grabbed along with Malir Expressway, crackdown launched

Sindh government owned land along both side of the under construction Malir Expressway is reportedly being grabbed illegally.

During an inspection on Sunday from Zero Point near Jam Sadiq Bridge, the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, uncovered illegal land grabbing on state land along both sides of the under-construction Malir Expressway.

As reported by Dawn, CM Sindh while evaluating the progress on the expressway, noticed encroachments along the route to the Shah Faisal interchange.

Upon noticing the illegal activity, CM Sindh summoned the deputy commissioner and SSP of Korangi district, questioning about the unchecked rise of illegal structures.

“I’ll not allow encroachment on even a single inch of government land,” he asserted, directing immediate demolition of the encroachments and demanding a report.

CM Shah also expressed dissatisfaction with delays in relocating K-Electric (KE) installations, a key obstacle preventing the opening of the 15-kilometer first segment of the expressway from Jam Sadiq Bridge to Shah Faisal Colony.

Despite multiple deadlines, including one for October, KE’s pending relocation of overhead installations has left traffic ramps incomplete.

The CM ordered the deputy commissioner to resolve the KE issue within a week, stressing that the funds had already been allocated for this purpose.

During the visit, Shah was accompanied by officials including Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Project Director Niaz Soomro, instructed that the first segment be opened by early December.

Additionally, the CM directed expedited payments to landowners to clear issues at the Quaidabad interchange and enhance landscaping at various interchanges with grass and trees.

The Malir Expressway, featuring six interchanges and three bridges, aims for full completion by 2025.
