18 target killings masked as street crime in Karachi

The revelation of 18 targeted killings masquerading as street crimes has sent shockwaves through Karachi, prompting intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to address the underlying security challenges in the city.

According to a report by ARY News, an investigation into 65 murders during robbery resistance has unearthed a disturbing trend of targeted killings camouflaged under the guise of street crimes. The Interior Minister of Sindh, Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, revealed that these 18 cases were meticulously planned attacks aimed at disturbing the peace in Karachi.

Despite these alarming incidents, the overall crime rate in Karachi remains relatively lower compared to Punjab. Efforts to combat street crime have yielded some success, with significant arrests made by the police targeting criminal gangs, thereby contributing to improved security in the city.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Sindh Police, are intensifying their efforts to address both street crimes and targeted killings, with the aim of restoring and maintaining peace in Karachi. Earlier this month, the Garden area police announced the arrest of a ringleader allegedly operating a 30-member gang of robbers in Karachi.

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) city, Arif Aziz, the arrested ringleader, identified as Faisal, was involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including changing IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones and selling them to an Afghan dealer. These phones were then smuggled to Balochistan and Afghanistan.

The police have recovered a pistol and a stolen cellphone from the possession of the accused criminal, highlighting the success of their operations in combating organized crime in Karachi. As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens in the city.
