Transporters, private sector increase passenger train, bus fares due to rising petroleum prices

Amidst the escalating prices of petroleum products in the country, the transporters and private sector have implemented fare increases for passenger trains and buses. This decision comes as a response to the recent surge in petroleum prices and its impact on operational costs. The fare increases have come into effect immediately.

Passenger Trains Fare Increase: Passenger train fares, specifically for the Fareed Express and Shah Latif Express, have been raised by 9 percent. This fare adjustment has already been integrated into the ticketing system. As a result, the fare for the Karachi to Lahore route has now been set at Rs3,450.

Intercity Buses Fare Increase: Intercity transporters have also implemented fare increases for various bus routes due to the recent spike in petroleum prices. The fare for the Karachi to Larkana bus service has been raised by Rs100 to Rs1,500, while the Karachi to Shikarpur fare has been increased by Rs200 to Rs1,600. Similarly, the fare for the Karachi to Mehar route has been raised by Rs100 to Rs1,400.

Other Fare Adjustments: Additional fare increases have been implemented for various other routes. The fare for the Karachi to Sehwan route has been raised by Rs100 to Rs1,200, while the Karachi to Naseerabad fare has been increased by Rs100 to Rs1,400. Moreover, the fare for the Karachi to Hyderabad route has been raised by Rs100 to Rs600.

These fare adjustments by the transporters and private sector reflect the challenges posed by the recent surge in petroleum prices, which has led to increased operational costs. The decision to increase fares is aimed at mitigating the financial impact on transportation services.

This fare increase announcement comes shortly after the caretaker government raised the price of petrol by a significant margin, resulting in a new record high for petrol prices in the country. The price of high-speed diesel was also increased in this recent adjustment.

The impact of these fare increases on commuters and travelers will be closely observed as the public responds to the adjusted transportation costs amidst the economic challenges posed by rising petroleum prices.
