The Saudi Minister for Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfig bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, announced significant developments in the realm of religious tourism between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. During a joint press conference with Pakistan’s caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed, Dr Tawfig revealed that the duration of Umrah visas for Pakistani pilgrims has been extended to 90 days. He further shared that efforts are underway to create additional pilgrimage sites in Makkah and Madinah, aimed at promoting religious tourism and enhancing the experience of pilgrims.
Emphasizing the historic and brotherly ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Dr Tawfig highlighted the commitment to facilitating the pilgrimage of faithful Pakistanis to Hajj and Umrah. He also unveiled plans to open around 100 historical and religious sites in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, with the goal of fostering religious tourism and creating a more enriching experience for visitors.
Addressing the matter of Hajj expenses, Dr Tawfig expressed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to reducing costs and enhancing the overall experience for pilgrims. He also mentioned that discussions during his visit covered multiple significant topics, including the signing of an agreement by civil aviation authorities from both countries to increase the number of flights connecting Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
In response, Pakistan’s caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmed called for an exemption from the biometric condition for Pakistani citizens above the age of 65 who wish to perform Hajj and Umrah. Additionally, he requested alternative sites for Pakistan Houses in Makkah and Madinah due to the expansion of the premises of the two holy mosques.
During his visit, Dr Tawfig also separately met with President Arif Alvi and caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar. President Alvi emphasized the significance of strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the economic sector, while expressing gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s support on various international Muslim issues. He lauded the Saudi Crown Prince’s leadership for fostering diplomatic relations with Iran.
In a subsequent meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, the Saudi minister received a warm welcome and discussed the positive trajectory of bilateral relations. The prime minister praised Saudi Arabia’s vision under Mohammed Bin Salman and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to being a steadfast partner of the kingdom.
The Saudi minister’s visit highlights the shared commitment of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to enhance religious tourism, strengthen bilateral relations, and promote economic cooperation, underscoring the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
