Karachi Mayor launches campaign to cover open manholes across the city

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who also serves as the chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), has initiated a campaign to cover open manholes across the city. The campaign aims to address safety concerns and improve the overall drainage infrastructure in Karachi.

The launch of the campaign was attended by KWSC CEO Engineer Syed Sallahuddin Ahmed, COO Engineer Asadullah Khan, and Chief Engineer Sewerage Aftab Chandio. The campaign will be implemented in phases, with the first phase covering districts such as Central, West, Keamari, and Korangi. The subsequent phases will extend the campaign to other districts of Karachi.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the collaboration of stakeholders in working towards the betterment of the city. He highlighted the importance of providing efficient drainage facilities to citizens and stated that it is among his top priorities. The installation of manhole covers will be supervised by the executive engineer and elected Union Council (UC) chairmen.

The campaign reflects the city’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure issues, with a specific focus on drainage improvements. The mayor assured that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation is working diligently on various projects to enhance the city’s drainage system, emphasizing the urgency of these measures.
