Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, confirmed on Tuesday the presence of four cases of a new variant of Corona, named JN1, which is identified as a sub-variant of Omicron. According to Dr. Nadeem Jan, all patients have recovered, experiencing only mild symptoms, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
In response to the emergence of the JN1 variant, Border Health Services, in collaboration with national and provincial health authorities and laboratories, has heightened its vigilance to ensure robust disease surveillance. Stringent screening measures have been implemented at international airports, covering entry and exit points.
The caretaker health minister highlighted the effectiveness of the screening system at international airports, emphasizing the implementation of recommendations from the International Health Regulations by the Border Health Services Department. He assured that both the federation and provinces are fully alert to the situation, and approximately 90% of Pakistan’s population has already been vaccinated.
Dr. Nadeem Jan urged citizens to continue practicing preventive measures such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, and adopting other precautions to mitigate the spread of diseases like COVID-19 and flu, particularly during the winter season. The confirmation of the JN1 sub-variant underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance and public health measures to address emerging challenges in the evolving landscape of the pandemic.
