Benazir Bhutto, Malala Yousafzai recognized as influential heroes in Marie Claire list

Marie Claire, a renowned French magazine, has recently published a list featuring two Pakistani women who are hailed as inspirational and powerful heroes who have made a significant impact on the world. The list recognizes former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and human rights activist Malala Yousafzai as women who have shaken the world with their accomplishments.

While Pakistan has produced numerous renowned professionals in various fields such as medicine, science, and academia, the representation of women in these ranks has been relatively limited. However, the recognition of these two Pakistani women on the international stage reflects the progress that society is making towards acknowledging the influential contributions of women.

The Marie Claire list, published in March, includes 60 remarkable women who have excelled in different domains, including women’s rights activism, racial equality advocacy, scientific innovation, and political leadership.

Describing Benazir Bhutto’s achievements, the website succinctly highlights her groundbreaking role as the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988. Despite facing a military coup that overthrew her father’s government, she took the reins of the Pakistan People’s Party and actively campaigned for open elections. Remarkably, she won the elections just three months after giving birth.

The list also acknowledges Malala Yousafzai’s extraordinary journey. Surviving a gunshot wound to the face inflicted by the Taliban, Malala has emerged as a prominent spokesperson for human rights, education, and women’s rights. In recognition of her fearless advocacy, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

Marie Claire’s illustrious list features phenomenal women from around the world who have not only made significant contributions to their respective fields but have also played crucial roles in the global fight for women’s empowerment. Among the prominent figures mentioned in the list are Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Gloria Steinem, Jane Austen, Maya Angelou, Queen Elizabeth II, and Indira Gandhi.

The inclusion of Benazir Bhutto and Malala Yousafzai in this prestigious list not only honors their individual accomplishments but also serves as a testament to the power and impact of women’s voices and leadership in shaping a more inclusive and equitable world.
