The decision follows a technical assessment that declared the commercial building unsafe after a massive fire caused extensive damage to the structure in January 2026.
According to details, the SBCA has formally initiated the bidding process for the safe demolition of Gul Plaza under the authority’s supervision.
SBCA Seeks Technical and Financial Proposals
The authority has invited separate technical and financial proposals from companies interested in carrying out the demolition work.
Due to the sensitive nature of the operation, both proposals must be submitted in sealed envelopes.
The entire demolition process will be conducted under the direct supervision of SBCA experts to ensure the safe removal of the damaged structure.
Interested contractors have until November 20 to submit their bids.
Gul Plaza Fire Left Building Unsafe
A devastating fire broke out at Gul Plaza on the night of January 17, 2026, causing extensive damage throughout the building.
Following the incident, a technical committee carried out a detailed inspection of the structure.
In its report issued in January, the committee declared the building unsafe and unfit for use, recommending its immediate demolition.
The latest bidding process follows that recommendation and marks a step towards clearing the damaged structure from the commercial area.
Sindh Govt Plans New Building for Affected Traders
The Sindh government has announced plans to construct a modern building at the Gul Plaza site after the demolition is completed.
The proposed development aims to facilitate the rehabilitation of traders and shopkeepers affected by the fire.
The demolition and reconstruction plans are expected to play an important role in the future of the commercial site on M.A. Jinnah Road.
