Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states during his speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China. He called for enhanced dialogue, regional cooperation, and stronger collective action against terrorism.
Call for dialogue with neighbors
On regional peace, the premier urged for a “comprehensive and structural dialogue” to resolve long-standing disputes. He proposed SCO leadership to play a guiding role in facilitating meaningful talks among neighboring countries.
Strengthening ties with China
Highlighting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Shehbaz said the flagship project demonstrates practical regional connectivity. He stressed the corridor’s role in ensuring reliable supply chains and deeper economic integration across the region.
Engagement with Afghanistan
Addressing ties with Afghanistan, the prime minister said Pakistan continues to engage constructively with Afghan leadership. He expressed hope that trilateral cooperation involving China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan would yield long-term positive outcomes.

Climate crisis and flooding
Turning to environmental challenges, Shehbaz noted that Pakistan is again facing devastating floods due to cloudbursts and river overflows. He thanked the international community, especially China, for their solidarity. He praised the courage and resilience of the Pakistani people in ongoing rescue and rebuilding efforts.
Condemnation of terrorism
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism. He revealed that there is irrefutable evidence of foreign involvement in the Jaffar Express train hostage incident and other attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He warned that the global community no longer accepts false narratives used to justify terrorism for political gain.
Gaza and humanitarian appeal
On the Gaza conflict, Shehbaz called for an immediate end to the violence and bloodshed. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the two-state solution under UN mandates, advocating for an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
