Karachi’s administration has intensified its crackdown on profiteers, imposing heavy fines and sealing shops violating price regulations during Ramadan 2025.
On the seventh day of Ramadan, 180 shopkeepers were fined a total of Rs. 1.77 million, while 13 were arrested, and four shops were sealed for non-compliance.
Additionally, food items were auctioned at government-set rates at 63 locations across the city to provide relief to Karachi consumers.
Over the past seven days, authorities have taken action against 1,165 profiteers, resulting in fines totaling Rs 18.4 million. So far, 110 individuals have been arrested, and 72 shops have been sealed.
A district-wise breakdown of fines imposed on the 7th day of Ramadan includes Rs 613,000 in South District, Rs 166,000 in East District, Rs 13,000 in West District, Rs 164,000 in Central District, Rs 53,000 in Malir, Rs. 196,000 in Korangi, and Rs 45,000 in Keamari.
Authorities have urged citizens to report profiteering complaints to the Commissioner’s Office control room at 021-99205634, 021-99203443, helpline 1299, or through a dedicated complaint portal.
