Karachi: Food prices soar despite official rate list as Ramadan begins

As Ramadan begins, inflation has surged, with the prices of essential food items, including fruits and vegetables, skyrocketing across the city.

Despite the official price list issued by Commissioner Karachi, market rates tell a different story.

Bananas, listed at Rs 146 per dozen, are being sold for Rs 250, while apples are priced at Rs 350 per kg instead of the official Rs 219.

Similarly, guavas are available for Rs 200 per kg against the fixed rate of Rs 138, and strawberries are being sold for Rs 450 per kg instead of Rs 161.

Vegetable prices have also exceeded the official rates.

Onions, set at Rs 63 per kg, are being sold for Rs 80, while garlic costs Rs 1,200 per kg instead of the approved Rs 610.

Green chilies are available for Rs 100 per kg against the listed Rs 58, and coriander is being sold for Rs 30 per bundle instead of Rs 5.
