Karachi is experiencing a significant rise in respiratory diseases, with the Sindh Health Department revealing alarming figures here on Monday.

According to the recent data, 248 cases of various respiratory illnesses have been reported in the city as of February 13 this year.

The majority of cases, 119, were of H1N1 influenza, primarily detected in hospitals, while Private hospitals reported 99 cases, while Dow University Hospital saw 20 cases.

Additionally, 95 cases of Influenza A and B were confirmed, along with 8 cases of coronavirus, 15 cases of Rhinovirus, and 2 cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

Health experts have urged residents to wear facemasks and practice good hand hygiene to prevent the spread of the easily transmissible influenza virus.

Infected individuals are advised to stay home for at least 24 hours and limit contact with others, while travel should be avoided.

The Sindh Health Department has also urged people to get vaccinated against influenza for protection.
