Uzbekistan has revealed plans to begin direct flights to Karachi in 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two countries.
The announcement was made by Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, during his official visit to Karachi.
He addressed key stakeholders including the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and local business leaders.
Ambassador Tukhtaev emphasized the strong cultural and religious connections between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, noting that this new direct flight service is a vital part of improving regional connectivity.
He expressed confidence that the new route would help promote economic and strategic cooperation between the nations.
The ambassador also highlighted the introduction of a soft visa regime for Pakistani citizens in September 2023, aimed at making it easier for Pakistanis to visit Uzbekistan for business or tourism.
This is in addition to the recently launched direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore.
Trade between Uzbekistan and Pakistan has significantly increased, growing from $122 million in 2019 to $387 million in 2023.
Ambassador Tukhtaev pointed to various sectors, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, and food processing, as areas ripe for further collaboration.
He also praised the success of the “Made in Pakistan” exhibition in Tashkent last June, which facilitated new trade agreements, and announced plans for a “Made in Uzbekistan” exhibition in Karachi later this year.
