Court imposes Rs 4.8 mln fine on KE over electrocution death of Azhan

K-Electric additional recoveries

The Senior Civil Judge Karachi East has issued a major verdict regarding the death of 8-year-old Azhan, who died from electrocution in 2017.

The court has ordered K-Electric to pay Rs 4,819,000 in damages to the family.

Azhan was electrocuted during the rains in the Model Colony area on July 23, 2017.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Usman Farooq, argued that K-Electric’s negligence contributed to the incident, citing their failure to install a guard wire.

K-Electric, however, contended that the pole from which the electric current originated belonged to KMC, and while K-Electric supplies electricity, the child’s decision to leave the house during the rain was a case of personal negligence.

The company also pointed out that it runs an awareness campaign to advise against going outside in the rain.
