Cancer medicine shortage in Sindh puts patients’ lives at risk

Cancer patients are facing a critical shortage of essential medications in Sindh, placing their lives at serious risk.

As reported by ARY News, Civil Hospital Karachi – one of the province’s major healthcare facility – is struggling to provide necessary medicines for cancer treatments, affecting 60 to 70 admitted patients, with many at stages 3 and 4, while the number of registered cancer patients is 6 thousand.

For the last two years, cancer medicines have been inaccessible to patients, with ARY sources revealing that last year’s procurement was halted due to high costs.

Doctors warn that advanced-stage patients, particularly those in stages 3 and 4, are enduring severe hardships due to the unavailability of the medicines.

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of Civil Hospital Karachi confirmed that a formal request has been made to the Sindh health department to address the shortage.

However, he noted that patients would only receive medication once the procurement tender process is completed, neglecting the critical patients as the supply issue persists.
