Tissori asks govt to curb crime in Karachi

The newly-appointed Sindh governor, Kamran Khan Tessori, has stated that Karachi people’s complaints about increased street crime are genuine and that the police must take comprehensive actions to address the frightening crime scenario.

The governor made the remarks while meeting with Karachi police head, Additional Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, at the Governor House on Wednesday. The discussion considered the city’s general law and order condition, particularly the perilous issue of street violence in the provincial capital.

Tessori said that, in addition to improving the function of community policing, the network of closed-circuit television cameras should be used efficiently to deter crime.

He recognised the efforts of the Sindh police and other law-enforcement authorities in preserving and developing the city’s peace and order.

Meanwhile, the governor was informed that the Sindh government was prepared to hold local government elections in the Karachi and Hyderabad divisions in the coming days, in accordance with the Election Commission of Pakistan’s directives (ECP).

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah briefed Tessori on this during their meeting at the Governor House.

The conference examined the sanitation and health condition in Karachi, as well as the actions being taken to guarantee a smooth run of the local government elections in Sindh’s two major cities and the code of electoral conduct to be observed by the concerned political parties in this regard.

Earlier, the governor held a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Governor House. The meeting discussed the law and order situation of the province and steps being taken to provide relief to the calamity-hit people.

The governor and CM agreed that the federal and Sindh governments should maintain close contact for the speedy execution of the development projects in the province. Both also discussed the steps being taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Tessori said that consultation among the concerned stakeholders was necessary to resolve issues in the province. He added that he intended to act as a bridge to improve ties between the Centre and Sindh government.

The CM greeted Tessori on assuming the office of the governor and assured him that he would continue to consult him to ensure the progress and development of the province.
