Sindh government warns transporters against overcharging ahead of Eidul Fitr

The Sindh government has warned intercity bus and coach operators against overcharging passengers traveling to visit their families and relatives during Eidul Fitr. The transporters have already hiked prices ahead of the religious festival, but Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has threatened to take strict action against those who charge more than the notified fares. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, he said FIRs would be registered against violators. Memon added that transporters should contact the government if they have any concerns about fares.

Eidul Fitr is a busy time for intercity bus operators as millions of people travel across the country to visit their loved ones. The Sindh government is taking steps to ease the burden on people already struggling with high inflation and swift increases in oil prices. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has rejected the proposal to increase fares for the Peoples Bus Service and postponed the raise, with the provincial government bearing the subsidy.

Memon also announced the launch of two routes for electric buses and said a third one would be operational from Tuesday. The Sindh government has set the support price of wheat at Rs4,000 per 40kg for the current season, but a fake notification of Rs3,000 per 40kg was circulated on social media to mislead farmers.
