Sindh Government to acquire 200 public transport buses

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approves the acquisition of 200 buses for the transport deprived province of Sindh.

The decision was taken while presiding over a transport department meeting on Tuesday. Minister for Transport Awais Qadir Shah, P&D Chairman Mohammad Waseem, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, Finance Secretary Hassan Naqvi, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani, Transport Secretary Abbas Detho and others were amongst the attendees.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Transport Awais Qadir Shah stated that 100 of these buses would be run in Karachi while the other would be deployed in five other districts of Sindh. He further added that these would be operated by private parties who would be selected through a transparent screening process.

The transport minister further added that these buses would follow a strict route as laid out by the government in line with the traffic requirements of the cit. In addition, the fares process would also be fixed by the government. The CM has directed the department to submit a detailed plan of the project and has ordered it to be completed within the next seven months.

With regards to the bus terminal project the CM had earlier ordered the construction of intercity bus terminals along the super highway which would be built over 100 acres of land. He expressed displeasure over the unnecessary delay in the transfer of land and ordered the relevant department to expedite the process.

Murad Ali Shah has also ordered the transport department to open a driving school so that the driving license branch is operated on an official basis.  Sindh Government to acquire 200 public transport buses
