Sindh Assembly approves resolution to protect buildings set to be demolished

The Sindh Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution — introduced by the government — to protect the Nasla Tower and other buildings declared by courts to have been illegally constructed.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) both opposed the resolution.

Prepared by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), says that Sindh Assembly must legislate for the regularisation and legalisation of the buildings that have been declared illegal by the courts.

PTI MPA Khurram Sher Zaman said the government wants to paint the opposition in a negative light by introducing the legislation which was aimed at “letting the robbers of the hook.”

MQM MPA Mohammad Hussain said they would not support any resolution against the Supreme Court orders.

PPP’s Saeed Ghani said poor people should not be penalized the mistake committed by the MQM when it was in power.
