Security measures have been intensified both within and around the University of Karachi following an incident where armed muggers harassed several female students near the Silver Jubilee Gate on the main University Road, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
Vice President of Karachi University Teachers Society (Kuts), Dr. Ghufran Alam, disclosed that on Tuesday evening, approximately 10 female students from the evening program were waiting for a bus at the main gate when two armed muggers attempted to loot and harass them. The quick actions of the girls, who ran for shelter, prevented the criminals from succeeding, and they fled the scene.
Mobina Town SHO Abdul Sattar Magsi confirmed the incident, stating that armed robbers indeed tried to loot the female students. SSP-East Syed Irfan Bahadur mentioned that three senior police officers visited the site and met with KU officials. Despite the incident, no formal complaint has been lodged, and the police are investigating. The father of one of the girls has been contacted for information related to the incident.
Karachi University Teachers Society took up the matter with the vice-chancellor, who, in turn, requested increased patrolling by Rangers and police along the main University Road. The objective is to ensure a secure environment for female students, teachers, and employees. The incident underscores the importance of proactive security measures to safeguard the well-being of those within the university premises.
