The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday reinforced that its order to stop the construction of Al Baari Tower be implemented in letter and spirit.
The top court heard a petition regarding the continued illegal construction of a 16-storey building, Al-Bari Tower, in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area that was allegedly being constructed on the land of a public park.
The petitioner’s lawyer added that the construction work had not been stopped despite the issuance of notice by the court.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed inquired about the builder and asked where the Karachi Commissioner was. The court reprimanded the government’s lawyer for the absence of the commissioner from the court and said that if he can’t do his job, he may as well resign.
Earlier in the day, the SC had ordered to raze the structure immediately and submit the report till afternoon.
