SBCA assistant director apprehended for alleged involvement in illegal construction; significant cash recovered

In a significant development, Karachi police have taken into custody a senior officer of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) for his suspected involvement in illicit construction activities within the city.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Sarfaraz Jamali, an assistant director at the SBCA. The arrest was executed following suspicions of his association with unauthorized construction projects in the metropolis.

Sources close to the investigation disclosed that during the arrest of Sarfaraz Jamali, a considerable amount of cash was discovered in his vehicle. The money, reportedly, was intended to be transferred to individuals associated with the operation of an ‘influential person’ linked to the illegal construction endeavors.

As the investigation unfolds, Assistant Director Sarfraz Jamali has been relocated to an undisclosed facility to facilitate further inquiries. The move aims to ascertain the extent of his alleged involvement in the illegal construction network.

A substantial sum of Rs. 220 million in cash has been seized from the possession of the arrested suspect. This recovered amount is believed to be linked to his recent activities and is suspected to be part of the gains from illicit construction operations.

It is important to note that this development comes on the heels of the suspension of another SBCA officer, Shahzad Arain. The arrest of Assistant Director Sarfraz Jamali follows closely in the wake of Shahzad Arain’s suspension. The latter’s suspension appears to be related to his connection with the operation of the purported ‘illegal construction system’.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized construction activities in Karachi and serves as a reminder of the authorities’ commitment to ensure proper urban planning and development in the city. The significant cash recovery further underlines the seriousness of the situation and the need for stringent action against those involved in such unlawful practices
