Pakistani students have once again emerged as the top recipients of Erasmus Mundus scholarships globally, securing 192 scholarships to study in various European universities, according to the EU Pakistan. The country ranked highest in the world, surpassing other nations such as India, Bangladesh, Mexico, and Nigeria.
A total of 2,835 students from 143 countries have been awarded EU-funded scholarships for enrollment in 146 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programs. This demonstrates a decrease compared to the previous year when 3,013 students from 133 countries were selected for the same programs, with Pakistan leading the rankings.
Earlier this year, the United States also announced 500 new scholarships for university students from flood-affected districts in Pakistan. This initiative aimed to support students in completing their degrees after the devastating monsoon rains and flooding that occurred in 2022. The scholarships were announced by US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, during an event at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Islamabad, commemorating International Women’s Day and celebrating the achievements of female scholars.
The continued success of Pakistani students in securing Erasmus Mundus scholarships highlights their academic talent and the global recognition of Pakistan’s higher education system. These scholarships provide invaluable opportunities for Pakistani students to gain international exposure and contribute to their personal and professional growth.
