In a positive economic indicator, Pakistan experienced a robust increase in cement sales, witnessing a remarkable surge of 37% in August 2023. The sales reached 4.518 million tonnes, marking a significant rise from 3.297 million tonnes recorded in the same period the previous year.
The data, provided by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), indicates a noteworthy increase in local market sales by 30% compared to August of the preceding year. This surge is indicative of growing construction activities and a positive trajectory in the country’s building and infrastructure sector.
Cement exports also played a crucial role in this uptrend, witnessing an impressive 87% increase, reaching 724,777 tonnes in August 2023, up from 387,440 tonnes recorded a year ago. This reflects a favorable international demand for Pakistani cement products.
The momentum in the construction sector was apparent in July as well, with a substantial 57.44% surge in cement sales, reaching 3.212 million tonnes compared to 2.040 million tonnes in July 2022. The APCMA reported a simultaneous surge in cement exports by 183.91%, reaching 435,854 tonnes from 153,517 tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
The data further reveals that cement factories in the northern region played a significant role in this positive trend, selling 2.473 million tonnes in the first month of the current fiscal year. This figure represents a remarkable 46.54% increase from the previous year’s 1.688 million tonnes.
The surge in cement sales and exports signifies a promising start to the fiscal year and suggests increased construction activities and infrastructure development in Pakistan. This positive economic trend is pivotal for the overall growth and development of the country.
