Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh rank high in Global Worst Armed Conflicts List: ACLED

In the latest rankings of the worst armed conflicts worldwide, the situations in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh have garnered consistent and alarming attention. The Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) released its report, highlighting Pakistan at the 14th position, India at 15th, and Bangladesh at 17th in the global rankings.

The report underscores a noteworthy shift in rankings, with India experiencing a one-point drop, while both Pakistan and Bangladesh have witnessed a more significant decline of five points each. The rankings shed light on the challenging security landscapes faced by these South Asian nations.

While Afghanistan’s situation is described as disturbing in the ACLED report, it holds the 25th position, showing an improvement of 12 places. The report provides insight into the evolving dynamics of armed conflicts globally, emphasizing the need for continued attention to conflict resolution and peace-building efforts.

A striking revelation from the report is that one out of every six people in the world presently resides in a region marked by violence. The data indicates a concerning 12 percent increase in conflicts in 2023 compared to the previous year, underlining the urgency for concerted global efforts to address the root causes of such conflicts.

The report further highlights that the top 50 countries with the highest recorded violent incidents collectively account for a staggering 97 percent of the world’s conflicts. This statistic underscores the concentration of conflict in specific regions, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and diplomatic solutions.

The situation in the top 10 countries on the list is particularly dire, with nations like Myanmar, Syria, and Palestine grappling with severe challenges. The ACLED report serves as a crucial resource for understanding the complex landscape of armed conflicts globally, shedding light on areas that require immediate attention and concerted international efforts.

It is imperative to note that ACLED, as an organization specializing in real-time data collection on armed conflicts, incidents, and protest activities worldwide, plays a pivotal role in providing valuable insights into the dynamics of global conflicts. The report serves as a call to action for the international community to collaborate in addressing the root causes of conflicts and promoting lasting peace in regions facing heightened security challenges.
