Karachi Zoo’s administration announced on Thursday that Madhubala, a 16-year-old elephant undergoing solitary confinement at Karachi Zoo, is set to be relocated to Safari Park next month.
Preparations for the relocation have been finalized, and Madhubala will be transferred to Safari Park, where she will join other elephants Sonia and Malika.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administration stated that training for Madhubala’s entry and exit from the container has been completed, and a new sanctuary is being prepared in collaboration with Four Paws.
Expected to be completed within 15 to 20 days, the sanctuary will provide a new home for Madhubala, who has been suffering from dental pain and infection due to a broken tusk for years.
Madhubala is among four African elephants treated by an eight-member team from Four Paws in 2022. The relocation to Safari Park will increase the park’s elephant population to three.
Notably, Four Paws gained international recognition for relocating Kaavan, often dubbed the world’s loneliest elephant, from Islamabad to Cambodia in 2020.
