Karachi to get public toilets by Sufi Foundation

The Salman Sufi Foundation has announced its latest initiative ‘Saaf Bath’ which will set up public restrooms in Karachi. As stated by the chairman of the foundation, a proposal has already been forwarded to Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani for the installation of these toilets.

Tariq road, Gulistan-e-Johar, Lucky Star and Seaview have been picked out as busy areas and a further survey will be carried out to decide where to install the restrooms in these areas. The plan is to use 20 foot containers which would have five stalls- three for women and two for men with separate entrances. Plans for a separate stall for people with disabilities and elderly is also in the books.

They project will employ trained technicians who would be working in two shifts and there are plans for proper maintenance and provision of water facilities and hand sanitizers.

As stated by Salman Sufi the head of the Salman Sufi Foundation, they have already received the no objectification certificate and are ready to head forward with their execution. In order to do, the foundation will work with several corporate companies.

Sufi Foundation previously launched its mega Women on wheels’ project where about 10000 women were taught to ride motor bikes. The organization aims to push for women empowerment and this project is an attempt to make public spaces women friendly. After Karachi, the project would then be launched in Lahore and other places in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan. The measure has also been taken considering the poor sanitary, health and hygiene conditions across the country especially for women.
