The residents of Karachi should prepare for a rise in temperatures and potential rainfall as the Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD) has issued a weather update warning of warmer days ahead. The city, which recorded a minimum temperature of 28°C on Wednesday, is expected to see the maximum temperature range between 32°C and 34°C over the coming days.
The PMD’s forecast indicates a shift in Karachi’s weather pattern, with temperatures gradually climbing as the week progresses. The city currently experiences 75% humidity, accompanied by westward winds blowing at 18 kilometers per hour. This combination of partial cloud cover and sunshine has created a warm and humid atmosphere that may persist.
Meteorologist Anjum Nazir provided further insight into the weather conditions, cautioning that Karachi’s temperatures are set to rise. "In the coming days, we expect temperatures to reach between 32°C and 34°C,” Nazir said. Despite the increasing heat, there may still be some respite in the form of drizzle and light rain during the early morning and night hours.
In addition to the rising temperatures, Karachi could be impacted by a new monsoon system expected to affect Sindh from August 26. According to Nazir, this system has the potential to bring rainfall to the metropolis starting from August 27. "The intensity of rainfall from this system can be predicted in the coming days,” Nazir explained. He also noted that Sindh could experience "two to three monsoon systems” by the end of September, suggesting that the region may face additional wet weather over the coming weeks.
The Met Office has also provided a broader outlook for the weather across Sindh. It predicts that mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over most parts of the province, with isolated light rain and drizzle expected in certain areas, including Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar districts, and along the coast.
While Karachi is likely to remain dry during the day, the possibility of overnight drizzle could offer brief relief from the heat. However, residents should remain vigilant as the anticipated monsoon system approaches, bringing with it the potential for more significant rainfall and possible flooding.
As Karachi braces for these changes, residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated during the hotter days. With the possibility of sudden rainfall, it’s also wise to be prepared for potential disruptions, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and flooding.
The PMD will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as the monsoon system develops. Karachiites should keep an eye on weather forecasts and be ready to adapt to the rapidly changing conditions.
