Karachi reports 219 dengue cases in a day

As the dengue virus outbreak persisted in Karachi, the province capital, 219 new cases of the illness were recorded.

The 219 instances recorded in a single day were confirmed by the provincial health authority. East District reported 78 dengue cases, Korangi District reported 18, Central District reported 61, and South District reported 35.

This year, Sindh as a whole recorded 5,244 dengue cases.

Raja Azhar, a member of parliament for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), asked the Sindh government to act quickly to combat the increase in dengue virus infections in Karachi earlier in the day.

Raja Azhar, a PTI MPA, reportedly wrote to Administrator Murtaza Wahab in Karachi to request effective measures to stop the virus epidemic in the port city.

Raja Azhar said in the letter that, according to the Sindh Health Department, the province has reported more than 3,000 cases to date, the most of which were found in Karachi.

After the city was battered by severe rains, the PTI leader requested that the Administrator Karachi remove standing water from outdoor and indoor areas to prevent mosquito breeding.

Additionally, he requested Murtaza Wahab to order Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to carry out a citywide fumigation operation. He continued, "The Sindh government should take the growing dengue cases seriously.”
