After being damaged by rain and flooding, the National Highway (N-25), popularly known as the RCD Highway, which connects Karachi and Quetta, remained blocked for a third day on Monday.
According to Lasbela Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murad Kasi, a recently constructed alternate road near the Landa region of Uthal on the National Highway was destroyed by floodwaters on Friday, resulting in three days of long lines of stranded vehicles, including those transporting commercial products.
According to Kasi, since the Landa river’s water level has reduced, work to restore the road will start today, and by tomorrow, it will be open to traffic.
He continued by saying that the National Highway Authority had received instructions to hurry and finish the restoration process quickly.
The DC also noted that relief activities in Lasbela, which were suspended for two days, started today.
Separately, villagers said land connectivity was cut off from the flood-affected area of Lakhra and repair work for it had begun.
According to a report from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 81 people were injured and 19,762 homes were either entirely or partially destroyed throughout the province since June 1.
