The elections for local bodies in Karachi are likely to be postponed again since the police and other government departments have stated that they would be unable to supply personnel.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is convening in the port city to settle the outcome of local government elections. The commission already declared that the LG elections will take place on October 23 in all seven districts of Karachi.

Sindh Police and other government departments have now said that they will be unable to deploy force to assist the ECP in conducting elections in the city.

The departments said that they will not be able to provide manpower due to floods.

The local bodies elections in the provincial capital has already been canceled twice.

The commission postponed the second round of Sindh’s local body elections for the second time last month.

In the second phase, elections were set for 16 districts in Karachi and Hyderabad. The ECP, however, postponed the polls due to the destruction caused by monsoon rains and floods in the region.

The second phase of Sindh’s LG elections was initially set for July 24. Due to persistent monsoon rains in the region, the polls were postponed for a month just days before the planned date.

The Pakistan Peoples Party dominated the first phase of Sindh local government elections, which were held in June of this year.
