Karachi Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rahman has expressed concern over the alarming rate of accidents involving motorcyclists in the city. He revealed that 54 percent of road accidents in Karachi involve motorcyclists, resulting in fatal head injuries. Speaking as the chief guest at a safe bike riding event organized at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Dr Rahman emphasized the importance of driving safely and adhering to traffic rules to avoid accidents.
During the event, Dr Rahman highlighted four major reasons for motorcycle accidents: riding at a young age, unsafe driving practices, speeding, and improper gear usage. He urged motorcyclists to prioritize their safety by wearing helmets while riding. He further emphasized that a significant number of motorcycle accident victims fall within the age range of 16 to 28 years, a critical phase when parents have high hopes for their children’s future. Dr Rahman urged young riders not to jeopardize their lives due to negligence and haste.
Citing statistics, Dr Rahman expressed concern over Pakistan and South Asia’s leading position in terms of head injuries among motorcyclists worldwide. To prevent such injuries, he emphasized the importance of using world-class helmets by both bikers and their passengers.
During the event, Dr Rahman inaugurated women’s biking training provided by Atlas Honda. He also underscored the need to embrace modern transportation systems in Karachi, keeping pace with global technological advancements.
Karachi Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rahman’s remarks were supported by Sir Syed University Vice Chancellor Dr Waliuddin, Registrar Commodore (retd) Syed Sarfaraz Ali, and other notable speakers present at the event.
