Karachi admisnistrator Iftikhar Shallwani has left for Istanbul to review their tram service in Turkey so to translate the system in Karachi as projected.
According to the press statement issued by the administrator’s office, the Tram Service Project offered by Turkey is to be materialized in Karachi once the feasibility assessment is complete and projected private partner(s) is available.
Officials Mohammad Salahuddin of Municipal services, and Director General Parks Taha Saleem also accompanied him.
Druing his visit to Istanbul he will “explore the potential partners” for the tram service, a propsed Public-Private Partnership project to be started in Karachi.
Administrator Karachi, who also holds an additional charge of the city commissioner, initially discussed the Public-Private partnership idea during his meeting with the Consul General of Turkeyt.
The idea covers a tram service itinerary to be in the vicinity of the Saddar while he met at Commissioner Karachi Office.
However the idea was further expanded to start the service in different routes to facilitate the maximum citizens of Karachi similar to the tram service being provided in different cities of Turkey successfully.
During his visit to the Istanbul, the statement read, he will have meetings with the concerned officials and representatives of the Tram service companies
He will discuss the possibilities and arrangements of initiating the project under the Public-Private partnership.
Additionally, he will possibly pitch it to the potential partners who show their interest in investing into the tram service.
He is likely to also explore the opportunities to be provided to the youth of Karachi in the fields of education and a number of trades while he’s there.
