Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said on Tuesday that the decision to shut Karachi down for a week was taken without the consensus of citizens. He further said that if Prime Minister Imran Khan was to announce that Karachi should be reopened, the political party will get the city to reopen in an instant.
The remarks were made during a joint press conference with the representatives of the business community at the MQM’s Bahadurabad headquarters.
On this occasion, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the citizens of Karachi are being harassed under the pretext of coronavirus and that timings for lockdowns should be fixed instead of shutting the whole city down for a week.
Siddiqui further commented that the decision to shut Karachi down was taken by those sitting in Dadu, rather than the people of the city.
He further claimed that if the city’s business community wanted their support, the party would stand by them while they reopened their businesses. Siddiqui further said that the federal and Sindh governments should declare a state of emergency in Karachi.
