Federal minister blames Sindh govt for possible Karachi gas crisis

Federal Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan said Sindh government will be directly responsible if there’s gas shortage in Karachi as it is not meeting its responsibilities in this regard.

The minister took to Twitter and said Sindh government has not so far given the right of way (ROW) -permission- for the awaiting 17km-long Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) pipeline.

He said the energy department has written to them letters for addressing the issue repeatedly and convened meetings with the concerned officials for the last one-and-a-half-year, but to no avail.

Omer asserted, “Sindh government will be directly responsible for any gas shortages in Karachi.”

Furthermore, on the power and energy markets, Omer Ayub Khan told National Assembly Standing Committee on Power that government is likely to save around Rs147 billion in next three years after it has streamlined matters related to the LNG usage in electricity generation.
