Dengue has claimed yet another life in Karachi, taking the death toll to eight since January this year. Reportedly, another 40 are infected of the viral mosquito-borne disease.
The latest victim of the Dengue was Sultan Ali, 34, a resident of Diamond Super Market in District East of Karachi. Ali was admitted at Aga Khan Hospital (AKU) with dengue hemorrhagic fever.
A total of 1,658 dengue cases have been notified in Sindh so far, of which, 1,585 were reported in Karachi alone.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in all regions of WHO in recent years. The virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus. This mosquito also transmits chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika infection.
