Crime rate decreased in Karachi: Additional IG

Kidnapping for ransom, target killings, and other terrible crimes had declined in the city, according to additional inspector general of police for Karachi Javed Alam Odhu, but further measures were being implemented to combat street crime.

Speaking at a luncheon with members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, he said that the recently established Shaheen Force was succeeding greatly on this front. Former presidents Zahid Saeed, Farhan-ur-Rehman, Danish Khan, Sheikh Umar Rehan, Johar Qandhari, Ehtshamuddin, Tariq Malik, and Sheikh Manzar Alam were also present, along with KATI Patron-in-Chief S.M. Muneer, President Salman Aslam, CEO of KITE Limited Zubair Chhaya, CPLC Chairman Zubair Habib, Senior Vice President Maheen.

DIG East Muqadas Haider, SSP Korangi Faisal Bashir Memon, SSP Malir Syed Irfan Bahadur, SSP Traffic Korangi Saadat Ali Yasin, SSP East Abdul Rahim Shirazi, and other top officials and members were among the senior police officers who accompanied Additional IG. According to additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odhu, 6,600 offenders have been detained this year compared to 5,500 detained previous year.

It is envisaged that the Safe City initiative, which would aid in crime prevention, will be introduced in Karachi in two years. On the global list of 250 cities impacted by crime, Karachi was placed 106th last year, but this year it has improved and is currently ranked 128th. He said that during the events of 2012 and 2013, it was the city’s business community that spoke out against kidnappings for ransom, target killings, and extortions. As a result, the law enforcement agencies (Rangers and Police) intervened and the city’s tranquilly was restored.
