Acute water shortage in Karachi after rainfall


Electricity breakdown at Dhabeji pumping station after monsoon’s first spell caused 90 crore gallon water shortage, 3 out of 10 water pipe connections have burst due to the back pressure.


Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) said, the city is provided with the water by 10 connections of them 3 burst down causing back pressure after constant electricity breakdown.


Karachi gets its water from Dhabeji pumping station by 10 lines. However, the water supply halted as there was 4 major breakdowns in last three days causing 3 water lines burst due to back pressure, said KWSB’s official.


Chief engineer Dhabeji Iftikhar Mirza while talking to media said, the city suffered acute shortage around 90 crore gallon of water in last three days. It will take almost three days to recover the connections, said resident engineer.


Areas affected are Gulshan Iqbal, Gulistan Johar, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, PECHS and many others.


MD Water Board has assured to recover all the connections till Friday.
