An important member of the provincial cabinet revealed on Sunday that the Sindh government is in negotiations with domestic and international parties to bring electric cars to Karachi where they will be used as an online E-taxi service.
While speaking with reporters at the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project site near Jinnah Avenue, Malir, Sindh Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon withheld information about the proposed taxi service and the role of the government in a wholly commercial operation.
He announced that "a contemporary, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly electric taxi service will be introduced in Karachi and expanded to other significant cities of the province.”
The project is the subject of ongoing negotiations, and the Sindh government is seriously working on it.
He claimed that the city’s existing online taxi services were charging extremely high rates because the price of petroleum products was rising. "The Sindh government is working to offer citizens a taxi service that is reasonably priced.”
Sharjeel claims that the Red Line project has the full support of all federal institutions, including Malir Cantt.
