By the time the disastrous floods are gone, the Sindh Livestock and Fisheries Department anticipates that two million animals would have perished.
The livestock department’s statistics, which was made public on Monday, indicates that the number of cattle casualties in Sindh is rising daily.
9,802 animals, including camels, cows, and sheep, were killed in the province, according to the department’s report on August 26. These animals are thought to have a total cost of more than Rs730 million. During the floods, 12,104 caves and shelters worth Rs5.8 billion were also lost.
The entire amount of losses is around Rs6.61 billion.
Just two days later on 28 August, the department released fresh data. It puts the count of dead animals at 11,734 worth Rs900 million while 12,344 dens and shelters are worth Rs5.950 billion, taking the total damages to Rs6.85 billion.
The livestock department’s data, which was made public on August 31, demonstrates the extent of the harm.
It demonstrates that 20,631 people died in various provinces at a cost of Rs2.70 billion, while the cost of shelter and damage was Rs6.33 billion. The total amount of damages is around Rs. 8.4 billion.
The Sindh Minister for Livestock, Abdul Bari Pitafi, stated during a news conference on Monday that 80,000 animals had been lost in flood-related accidents, resulting in damages of Rs270 billion.
He said that the department is still gathering real data while other provinces are giving cautious projections in response to a question regarding the government increasing the number of animals slaughtered within days.
