Every taluka of Sindh to have a tent village

The Sindh High Court (SHC) Sukkur bench ordered the urgent construction of tent towns for flood victims throughout the province.

The SHC Sukkur bench, headed over by Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, expressed displeasure with the district administration’s handling of relief and rescue efforts while hearing a matter involving the devastation brought on by recent rains and floods.

The SHC bench questioned the commissioner about the number of persons who had been saved and the amenities that had been provided for them. The Sindh government was ordered by the court to quickly establish 10 cities around the province for the flood victims.

The SHC Sukkur bench commanded the rapid establishment of the 10 cities as well as the guarantee of food and medical services.

The court also mandated the creation of citizen committees to oversee aid efforts under the direction of civil judges.

The court further directed the Sindh government to provide directives for patching canal breaks and to produce a report on the province’s rain and floodwater drainage systems.

It should be mentioned that residents from the Katcha area are fleeing to safer locations as the Indus River rages in high flood at the Sukkur, Guddu, and Taunsa barrages with above five lac cubic seconds of water.
