UK business community should invest in Karachi’s public transport: Sharjeel

Sharjeel Inam Memon, the minister of Sindh Information and Transport, has asked UK businesspeople to invest in Karachi’s public transportation system, claiming that the city is tranquil and a great place for foreign investment.

He issued the invitation while speaking with a British Commission delegation led by Batool Zehra during their Thursday visit. The second secretary and trade manager of the UK diplomatic mission in Pakistan were part of the trip.

Qasim Naveed, the Sindh CM’s investment special assistant, and Abdul Haleem Sheikh, the transport secretary, also attended the meeting. According to Memon, Karachi offers a wealth of business opportunities, and the Sindh government has been working hard to establish a modern public transportation infrastructure there.

He stated that the Orange Line BRTS service would soon start running and that the People’s Bus Service had recently begun operations in Karachi. Memon claimed that the government made the introduction of public buses with European standards in Karachi a top priority.

He said that the uplift work in this regard had already begun after the chief minister approved the disbursement of Rs1.5 billion for renovating Karachi’s road infrastructure, particularly various routes of the People’s Bus Service.

He told the delegation that it will take a month to finish the uplift work to improve the routes of the People’s Bus Service. According to him, the proposed Karachi Circular Railway service will be a significant initiative for the city’s mass transit system.

Memon claimed that the CM has raised the topic of the KCR joining the CPEC regime with the federal government in order to hasten its development. He stated that the CM has also sought that Sindh be given responsibility over the KCR by the federal government.
