The MET Office has announced that a monsoon system will cause significant rainfall in Karachi and other coastal Sindh areas starting on August 11.
According to the forecast service, the monsoon system is expected to bring significant rain from August 11 to 15.
Low-lying regions of the city are at risk of urban floods, according to the Met Office. It’s anticipated that Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, and other coastal areas may see significant rainfall.
The majority of Pakistan will have above-average rainfall during the monsoon season this year, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) monthly weather outlook for August.
In August, the PMD predicts above average rainfall in the coastal regions of Balochistan, Kashmir, southern Sindh, and northeastern Punjab.
In contrast to Gilgit Baltistan, most areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan may see slightly above average rainfall in August 2022.
The Met Office has issued a warning that intense rainfall may result in urban flooding in plain areas, including as the major cities of Punjab, Sindh, and KP, as well as flash flooding in hilly areas of Punjab, AJK, and KP.
The weather service states that riverine floods "cannot be ruled out” because of extreme hydro-meteorological occurrences over catchment areas.
The PMD stated in its weather outlook that "above normal temperatures in high altitudes are likely to boost rate of snowmelt in the Northern Areas thus raising the likelihood of base flow in the Upper Indus basin.”
