President Karachi Chamber of Commerce Muhammad Idrees has said that Sui Southern Company has not been supplying gas to Karachi industries for five months.
Responding to this, Minister of State Musaddiq Malik said that the government’s power to provide subsidies is limited.
Angered by the remark, traders said: “We have been accused of gas theft after which, the Sui Southern Gas Company had to apologise.”
Malik, on the other hand, reasoned that local gas production is decreasing and that the resource has to be provided to the average citizen as well.
He further clarified that there is no agreement with Russia to buy oil.
The meeting was chaired by Muhammad Abdul Qadir and was attended by Minister of State for Petroleum Musaddiq Malik, Secretary Petroleum Ali Raza Bhatta, Chairman OGRA Masroor Khan, DG Gas Abdul Rashid Jokhio, President Karachi Chamber of Commerce.Besides Muhammad Idrees and General Secretary AQ Khalil, Chairman Karachi Chamber of Commerce Businessmen Group Zubair Motiwala was also present.
