Malir Expressway: foundation stone for 39-KM long carriageway to be laid mid-November

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting on Thursday to deliberate over ongoing development works in the province and finalized Malir Expressway prospects.

CM Shah said the work on 39-kilometre-long Malir Expressway will be carried out via Public-Private Partnership mode. He asserted that its groundbreaking will be most likely in the second week of November.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem, Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani among others provincial cabinet members.

Malir Expressway is a four-lane carriageway and is slated to be constructed along Malir River starting November, said a press statement of the meeting today.

The project is mapped to start at KPT Interchange Qayyumabad to end all the way at Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway near Kathore, according to the briefing in the session.

The chief minister has given the go-ahead to projected Investment in order to mobilize machinery, according to the statement, and he is likely to lay its foundation stone in the second week of November.

On the other hand, CM Shah discussed the under construction Wastewater Recycling Plant in Haroonabad in the same session as well. The wasterwater plant is laid out to provide a total of 50 million gallons per day (MGD) of recycled wastewater to SITE industries, that, after both of its phases have accomplished.

In its first phase, the wastewater filtration plant will recycle 30 MGD water and successively, after its second phase, it will further provide 20 MGD recycled water to the industries of SITE industrial zone.

CM Shah said he directed Public Works Department to seek assistance from WB to facilitate the recycle plant project financially, however, he added that even if the assistance is not materialized the project will continue to be built via public-private partnership mode.
