Cholera epidemic intensifies in Shedi Goth Malir, one fatality, 300 hospitalized

The cholera epidemic in the Shedi Goth Malir area of Karachi has intensified, resulting in the hospitalization of 300 affected individuals and the unfortunate death of one woman.

According to the District Health Officer (DHO), the deceased woman was brought to the hospital already deceased. The outbreak is believed to be a result of contaminated water, and samples of the water have been obtained for testing. Efforts are underway to control the situation and prevent further spread of the disease.

This recent outbreak of cholera adds to the growing health concerns in Karachi. During the three days of Eid, there was a significant increase in food poisoning cases reported in the city. In just one government hospital, over 1,700 cases of food poisoning were recorded during this period.

The administration of Civil Hospital reported that out of these cases, 400 were reported on the second day of Eid, 600 on the third day, and more than 670 cases were reported on the previous day. It is alarming to note that all patients are above 12 years of age, indicating that people of all age groups are being affected by the consumption of contaminated food and beverages.

Authorities are working diligently to address these health concerns and ensure the well-being of the residents. It is crucial for the public to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to avoid consuming unsafe food or water. The health department and relevant authorities are actively engaged in monitoring and controlling the situation, with the aim of curbing the cholera epidemic and preventing further illnesses in the affected areas.
