In anticipation of a possible cyclone and heavy rains in Karachi, 750 damaged shops in Liaquatabad Supermarket have been sealed. The Assistant Commissioner of Liaquatabad took action based on the identification of the SBCA (Sindh Building Control Authority). The sealing encompasses the basement, ground floor, and a 9-storey building, effectively restricting access from all sides.
Additionally, four government offices situated within the supermarket premises, including the offices of the Water Board, State Department, Library, and KMC Lease, have also been sealed.
It is noteworthy that the basement of the Liaquatabad supermarket has been accumulating several feet of water for many years, and the supermarket has been declared unsanitary long ago.
