The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms in Karachi and various other parts of Pakistan starting today. Additional rainfall is also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujranwala, Lahore, and other regions. The PMD has issued warnings about the potential risk of urban flooding in several cities and the danger of landslides in hilly areas.
In Karachi, dark clouds have loomed since early morning, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall over the next two days. Mayor Murtaza Wahab has declared a rain emergency in the city and assured citizens that proactive measures have been taken to minimize any inconvenience caused by the monsoon rains.
Lahore has already been experiencing continuous monsoon showers, leading to the transformation of low-lying areas into streams and canals. The Met Department has expressed concerns about urban flooding and warned of potential infrastructure damage. Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Aslam has advised the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities for their safety.
The PMD has predicted rainfall accompanied by wind and thundershowers in various regions of Pakistan, with isolated heavy rainfall anticipated in certain areas. There is a high risk of river flooding between 8th and 10th July. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Unfortunately, rain-related incidents have already occurred. In Lahore, over 10 people lost their lives due to a roof collapse caused by torrential rains. Moreover, a bus overturned near Hazara Interchange, resulting in injuries to seven individuals. In the Karbala area of Attock, heavy showers caused a house’s cement nets to collapse, leaving four people injured.
It is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about weather updates, follow safety guidelines, and take necessary measures to protect themselves and their property during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
