Karachi police chief reveals involvement of Afghans in street crimes, announces operation against illegal foreigners

Karachi Police Chief, Khadim Hussain Rand, has disclosed the significant involvement of Afghans in street crimes, particularly in wanton killings during robberies in Karachi. Speaking to Geo News, Rand stated that there are over 400,000 illegal Afghans residing in the city. In the past year, 323 illegal Afghans were deported, and in the last month alone, 1,547 detained Afghans have been sent back to their homeland.

Rand highlighted that Karachi Police, in collaboration with other government agencies like FIA and NADRA, is gearing up for a comprehensive, one-window operation against illegally staying foreigners, with a particular focus on Afghans. The operation aims to detain various populations, cross-verify captured Afghan nationals with NADRA and FIA immigration records, and systematically deport illegal Afghan residents.

The police chief emphasized that street crime in Karachi has impacted every citizen, with Afghans notably involved in major incidents of street crime, including wanton killings during robberies. Rand revealed that in recent operations, 225 Afghan nationals have been arrested in connection with street crime, facing various charges and currently in detention.

Additionally, he shared that the efforts of the new Karachi Police team have yielded significant results. In the past month, over 20 suspects were killed, 130 injured, and 600 criminals arrested during police encounters in Karachi. The operation reflects a comprehensive approach to curb illegal activities and enhance the safety and security of the city’s residents.
