Mayor Karachi vows action on fire safety violations following Ayesha Manzil incident

In the aftermath of the tragic fire incident near Ayesha Manzil, Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, has emphasized the critical need for fire safety measures in buildings across the city. He declared that buildings in Karachi would not be allowed to operate without proper fire safety systems, and stringent action would be taken against structures approved without these essential safety protocols.

The fire, which erupted in furniture shops near Ayesha Manzil, quickly spread to residential flats, resulting in a significant loss of life and property. In response to the incident, the caretaker chief minister of Sindh ordered an inquiry, and Sindh Governor Kamran Tesuri called for a comprehensive report to ascertain the causes and address potential lapses.

Speaking with Geo News, Governor Tesuri expressed concern over the prevailing situation in Karachi, emphasizing collective responsibility for preventing such tragedies. He underscored the need to avoid recurrent incidents of this nature and called for concerted efforts to enhance safety standards and practices in the city.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab, addressing the media, disclosed that building inspections have commenced at four different locations in Karachi. Caretaker Home Minister Sindh, Brigadier Retired Haris Nawaz, viewed the incident as a profound lesson. He expressed hope for collaborative efforts between the Sindh government and various institutions to devise strategies and measures that enhance safety and emergency response capabilities.

Meanwhile, ongoing rescue operations at the affected residential building have uncovered another casualty, bringing the total death toll to five. The individual succumbed to suffocation and burns. Additionally, one person sustained injuries in the incident.

The tragic incident has prompted a collective call for a thorough review of safety protocols, building approvals, and emergency response mechanisms to ensure the safety and well-being of Karachi’s residents.
